Adventist Health Glendale and the American Heart Assn. (AHA) recently teamed up to deliver little red hats to the hospital’s NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and post-partum babies. The hats were knitted and crocheted by AHA volunteers in celebration of American #HeartMonth. AHGL is one of 30 hospitals participating in the AHA’s #LittleHatsBigHearts program, which raises awareness of heart disease, the number one killer of Americans, and congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in the country. With over 500 volunteers and 8,000 hats made, no baby is left behind!
Babies born at Adventist Health Glendale during the month of February will be receiving red hats knitted and crocheted by volunteers for the American Heart Association (AHA) in celebration of American Heart Month. The hospital received 150 little red hats to distribute.
“We believe that health starts from the moment a baby takes its first breath. That is why we join the American Heart Association in empowering moms to live heart-healthy lives and encouraging them to help their children grow healthy and strong through the Little Hats Big Hearts program,” said Grace Kwasman, RN, director of Nursing Administration.
The Little Hats Big Hearts program provides hats to hundreds of thousands of newborn babies in 40 states across the country. For more information on the program, visit the American Heart Association’s website at www.heart.org/LittleHatsBigHearts.
