Hi, CV!

We want to thank everyone for coming out to the Rx Drug Take-back on Saturday. Officer Joe Allen, GPD, got a text saying we removed 28 boxes of unwanted medicines from our community! That’s great! Big thanks to everyone who volunteered from the DEA, Glendale Police, CV Sheriff’s Station Volunteers, and the Community Prevention Council. Again, you have 24/7 drop off at the CV Sheriff’s Station (4554 Briggs Ave.). Look for the next DEA-sponsored program next April.

Another community resource is GUSD’s Healthy Start Office. They provide free food, clothes, toys, mental and physical health services, and drug test kits. Visit your school counselor for additional information. Healthy Start’s office is room 101, 223 N. Jackson in Glendale, phone number (818) 241-3111 ext. 1308. Maybe you don’t need their services but someone you meet might. Or you could collect and donate to their pantry.

If you would like to know more about what’s going on in GUSD schools and find additional available resources, please attend Healthy Start Collaborative meetings that are on the third Thursday of the month from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in room 103, 223 N. Jackson.

Come to our Red Ribbon presentation at Toll Middle School on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Officer Joe Allen is going to speak about synthetics. Synthetic marijuana, or spice or K2, is a huge problem. In fact, as I write this, the news reports two million synthetic marijuana packets were seized in the Bronx, an entryway into our country. Don’t miss this free talk for parents and students. This is in partnership with GUSD, Glendale Council PTA and Didi Hirsh AOD.

Finally, we elected new members to our board of directors and said farewell to seven. Welcome Neda Faramound, Kevin Cordova-Brookey, Joe Allen, Ken Riedel, Lucinda Guarino, and Vickere Murphy. Thank you for your service Susan Dubin, Kim Beattie, Melinda Clarke, Jean Maluccio, Lynn Miyamoto, Sona Hovsepian, and Lyova Zalyan. Our executives are Pastor Bill Flanders, president, Ana-Marie Schaefer and Shirley Poordawood, vice-presidents, Tiffany Hirdler, secretary, and Ben Salazar, treasurer. Returning are Makayla Rabago, Tara Asadoorian, Rick Dennis, Brad Beach, John Howell, Ilin Magran and senior advisor Henry Lozano.
