NOTES & NODS

LCIF Holding Blood Drive

Lutheran Church in the Foothills (LCIF) is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a vital blood donation event next week, urging community members to roll up their sleeves and help secure the region’s blood supply. The blood drive is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Officials from the Red Cross stress that all blood types are urgently needed to support patients in local hospitals. To ensure a smooth experience, appointments are encouraged. Prospective donors can schedule their time slot by visiting RedCrossBlood.org and entering the sponsor code: lcfoothills. Donors are also encouraged to save up to 15 minutes on the day of the donation by using the “RapidPass” system. This allows participants to complete their pre-donation health history online by visiting RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass before arriving.

LCIF would also like to remind the community that this is the final week to donate blankets and hygiene supplies for its collection drive to help those in need. Needed hygiene items include toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, soap, shampoo, deodorant and feminine hygiene products. LCIF asks that donated items are new.

Donations can be dropped off during Sunday worship at 10 a.m. For those wishing to donate during the week, items can be dropped off at the church office.

Visit lcifoothills.org for event details, including small group gatherings and opportunities to serve. For more information or to request/offer help, email office@lcifoothills.org or call (818) 790-1951. The church is located at 1700 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Walk and Word

Walk and Word participants will meet in the parking lot of Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta/Glendale at 8 a.m. on Nov. 16, 23 & 30. Participants will walk for the first hour and then gather to read a selection of Scripture. About a half hour will be spent journaling about what was read and then there will be conversation, sharing thoughts.

Participants are asked to bring something to write with, anything wanted to eat or drink, and a chair to use for the writing part of the morning. Because people will be outdoors and social distancing will be practiced, masks will be optional.

Those with questions can email Jeanne at jnlavieri@earthlink.net.

All are welcome. If the hike is too strenuous, there are level paths at the park. There are ramps from the parking lot to the field where the group gathers after the hike.
