Lutheran Church Welcomes Singers to Anthem Choir

The Anthem Chorale returns from summer break on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. Led by music director Mark Anzelon, the choir welcomes singers of all levels, regardless of prior experience. LCIF holds rehearsals for Anthem Chorale every Sunday at 9:15 a.m. in the church’s sanctuary for the songs presented that day. The only requirement for joining is a love a music and a desire to have fun.

In addition, coming up on Saturday, Oct. 4, LCIF will hold a church “work day.” The church holds several work days each year, each time seeking volunteers to help to with everything from cleaning and organizing to gardening and other outdoor projects. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers can lend a hand for as little or as long as they are able.

Lunch will be provided in the Fellowship Hall.

LCIF invites all to hear from guest pastor Deacon Tempie Beaman who will lead this Sunday’s worship at 10 a.m. Beaman is the former director of My Friend’s House, a food pantry in Los Angeles, which serves about 200 people a week.

Visit lcifoothills.org for event details. For more information or to request/offer help, email office@lcifoothills.org or call (818) 790-1951. The church is located at 1700 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Fun at Mt. Olive Preschool

Mt. Olive preschool has kicked off the new school year by teaching about science. Students discovered and explored all kinds of fun science activities and learned about gravity, and oil and water (and how they don’t mix). Students also experimented with items to learn if they sink or if they float.

Mt. Olive still has openings; those interested in learning more about the play-based school and all of its activities reach out to Ashley at mtolivepreschool@yahoo.com or visit mtopreschool.org.

Women’s Nondenominational Bible Study

Holy Craft

The community is invited on Sundays at 11 a.m. starting Oct. 21 in the sanctuary foyer of La Cañada Congregational Church. Bring a craft project and supplies along with a snack to share. Attendees will find seasoned knitters, procrastinating gift makers and curious learners coming together to make something beautiful (even if it’s just conversation). It’s a great way to share a skill, learn a new one (supplies provided) and find new friendships.

Walk and Word

Walk and Word participants will meet in the parking lot of Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta/Glendale at 8 a.m. on Sept. 28. Participants will walk for the first hour and then gather to read a selection of Scripture. About a half hour will be spent journaling about what was read and then there will be conversation, sharing thoughts.

Participants are asked to bring something to write with, anything wanted to eat or drink, and a chair to use for the writing part of the morning. Because people will be outdoors and social distancing will be practiced, masks will be optional.

Those with questions can email Jeanne at jnlavieri@earthlink.net.

All are welcome. If the hike is too strenuous, there are level paths at the park. There are ramps from the parking lot to the field where the group gathers after the hike.
