Assemblymember’s Father Discovered Shot and Killed in his Home

Los Angeles Police were summoned to a home in the 2800 block of Bright Lane in Silver Lake at 8:15 p.m. last night.

“We [discovered] a man in his late 70s who suffered a gunshot wound,” said Officer Bruch Borihanh.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Justin Hager, spokesman for Assemblymember Mike Gatto confirmed the victim was in fact the Assemblymember’s 78-year-old father Joseph.

According to a LAPD spokesperson a family member made the discovery of the body.

Gatto was notified of his father’s passing last night in Sacramento.

“He is devastated,” Hager said.

Joseph Gatto is a retired teacher from the Los Angeles County School for the Arts.

“[Assemblymember Gatto] is grateful to the LAPD for their kindness and [professionalism],” Hager said.

The investigation is ongoing.
