Rosemont Preserve with Rich Toyon

All are invited on Saturday, Aug. 28 from 9-11 a.m. for a tour led by 14th generation Californian Rich Toyon to learn about the importance of the Rosemont Preserve as the ancestral homelands of the Tongva people of the Los Angeles basin.

The Tongva are the original inhabitants of the Crescenta Valley who managed the flora and fauna for their purposes and for the health of the environment in which they lived. Goss Canyon, where the Rosemont Preserve is located, was one of several canyons that had specific use and was a source of many plant and animal species necessary for daily life. The Tongva knew that if they took care of the land, the land would take care of them.  Learn how these ancient ways are even more relevant today.

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages, no reservations required.  Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta. Those with mobility issues that require a closer parking spot can contact RosemontFriends@gmail.com. Please wear sturdy shoes to walk the trail.

Non-perishable food items will be collected to benefit the Bailey Human Care Center. Community members are asked to enter the parking lot from Ramsdell, pull forward to a donation table, and “pop the trunk;’ CV Robotics team members will gratefully accept all donations in a socially responsible and COVID-safe manner. Donations of paper and plastic grocery bags will also be accepted as the Bailey Center uses these to distribute food to their clients. Finally, anyone who has surplus ripe fruit or vegetables from their garden can donate those as well.

All donations will help care for those in need in the local community.

Glendale Chamber Opposes Rental Registry

Following a recommendation from the Glendale Chamber of Commerce Business Advocacy and Executive Committees, the Chamber’s board of directors voted unanimously to oppose a possible establishment of a rental registry for multifamily rental units in Glendale, which was slated for consideration at a joint city council and housing authority meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

The Glendale Chamber joins the Glendale Association of Realtors and others in opposing the establishment of a rental registry for a host of reasons, which include privacy concerns for owners and tenants, unnecessary added burden and cost for Glendale housing providers and tenants, exorbitant costs for taxpayers and the challenges of implementing such a large-scale program from a technology standpoint.
