CVTC Meeting

The Crescenta Valley Town Council meets tonight, Thursday, at 7 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta.

 

Schiff Hosting Climate Change Forum

On Friday, April 21 at 7 p.m. Rep. Adam Schiff will host a conversation on climate change at Caltech’s Beckman Auditorium. Professors from the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of California, Riverside and Caltech will take part in a panel discussion.

Admission is free but seating is limited.

California Institute of Technology – Caltech Beckman Auditorium is located at 1200 E. California Blvd. in Pasadena.

 

CVCA Plans Meeting

The Crescenta Valley Community Association will meet starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 at the La Crescenta Library. The agenda includes updates on local land use and development issues. Free and open to all stakeholders.

Chilao School Hosts Event

Chilao School is having an open house and is hosting a hike and mountain bike ride on Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be food, and guests are invited to be prepared to get some exercise, paint/draw/take pictures, hike or ride, or just relax.

Chilao School is available for arts, cultural, environmental and healing arts programs on a donation basis. This is a free event and everyone is welcome.

Chilao School is located in Chilao Campground in the heart of the Angeles National Forest. Travel north on Highway 2 (Angeles Crest Highway) from La Cañada for 26 miles to mile marker 49.69. Turn left onto Chilao Road and follow the red and white sings that read “Redbird” and “Chilao School.”

 

Bingo and Prayer Breakfast on Saturday

The public is reminded that a community prayer breakfast takes place on Saturday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Community Life Church, First Baptist, 4441 La Crescenta Ave. Donation is $10 per adult and students are free.

At 4:30 p.m., doors open at the American Legion Hall, 4011 La Crescenta Ave., for a bingo game benefiting Prom Plus. The cost is $10, which pays for 10 games, a dauber and fun. Tickets available at the door and at the office of CV Weekly and CV Chamber of Commerce.

 

Weekend Events at Preserve

All are invited on Saturday, April 22 to the Rosemont Preserve from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for another in a series of guided tours. Join Dana Stangel as she gives a guided tour of the Rosemont Preserve and talks about wildlife in Southern California. Stangel is a biology teacher, wildlife educator and the executive director of Teranga Ranch, a non-profit that specializes in reptile rescue and wildlife education. She has been working with wild and domestic animals for over 20 years, spending most of that time studying and working with apex predators and urban wildlife. Stangel will talk about wildlife habitat, local wild animals, wildlife corridors, effects of rodenticide on wildlife, safe hiking in apex predator territory all with a focus on how folks can co-exist with wildlife in the community. Depending on weather, she may bring a native animal or two!

Then on Sunday, April 23 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., there will be a spring equinox celebration at the Rosemont Preserve. The Rosemont Preserve is opening its gates to the community from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., with a special focus on activities for families. Bring your kids for hands-on games, art projects and learning related to plants, animals, and local Native American heritage at the Preserve. There will also be a scavenger hunt and a docent-led walk for those wishing to further explore the Preserve ecosystem.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Wear sturdy shoes if planning to walk the trail.

These events are free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels. Sorry, no pets please.

Residents Advised to Make Water Conservation a Way of Life

On April 17, the Foothill Municipal Water District (FMWD or District) called on local residents to “Make Water Conservation a Way of Life” as requirements will ease from Extraordinary to Standard Conservation.

FMWD officials recommend that residents water only three days a week.

FMWD purchases imported water from MWD and distributes it to retail water suppliers in the area. Customers should contact their retail provider to learn more regarding what restrictions continue to be in place and for days of the week that irrigation may occur.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Southern California – Pasadena/Foothills chapter is hosting a forum titled, “ICE Raids, Privacy Invasions, Muslim Bans – What You Need to Know” on Tuesday, April 25 at 7 p.m. at Glendale City Church.
