There’s the Rub
I’ve decided to take a hopeful stance regarding the pandemic and it nearing its end. Mind you, I’ve never been one to shy from the loosening of government restrictions regarding COVID-19. For example, when outside dining was allowed I was first to be seated. When hair and nail salons could accept clients – whether inside or out – I booked my appointment.
That’s not to say I don’t follow protocols: I wear my mask when outside (except when I walk the dogs; then it is in my pocket in case I come across someone) and for Easter 2020 I had Steve record me, outfitted in mask and gloves, wiping down Easter baskets with Lysol wipes to show family members that I was observing safety measures when preparing holiday treats.
Obviously I keep a close eye on those things that I’m “allowed” to do so when restrictions on personal care establishments were relaxed earlier this month, I booked a much-needed massage at Uptown Face and Body on Honolulu in the Montrose Shopping Park.
Maria over at Uptown always makes sure I have a peaceful, tranquil experience at her place and the technicians she uses are all pros. I indulged with a 90-minute massage with hot stones and when I left her salon I was properly “noodle-ized;” that is, totally relaxed.
Looking ahead to summer, one of my favorite times of the year, I wanted to share what activities are planned. Though the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce is curtailing its annual Fiesta Days celebration (traditionally held over the Memorial Day weekend) some of those events will be held later in the season. For example, on Monday, July 5 the parade is scheduled followed by the kickoff of Music in the Park. Chamber president and CEO Pat Anderson wanted to make sure that an asterisk was placed next to those two events: all safety protocols, including social distancing and any other restrictions dictated by the LA County Dept. of Public Health, will apply. She invited the community to visit the chamber’s website later this month for details.
The LCF chamber is also planning a virtual community bingo night on May 20, a business mixer on July 15 that will be sponsored by the City of LCF and held in Olberz Park (the park located next to the former Sport Chalet now Target site) and a “backyard BBQ” on July 17 sponsored by the Chamber.
As I mentioned in an earlier column, the CV Chamber of Commerce is also planning ahead with a positive outlook. Plans include on May 6 a virtual vendors silent auction from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on July 10 a (long overdue) bingo game, a scholarship golf tournament in August and in September the always-popular Hometown Country Fair.
To state again: All of these lofty plans are predicated on permission by the county and state to hold these types of events.
But it is exciting to think that if we’re able to steer clear of any COVID surges and continue to get vaccinated (I’ve gotten both of my shots) more restrictions will be lifted until the wonderful day when we can exhale and say, “It’s over.”
