Meeting Planned for CVHS Athletic Field Improvement
A meeting will be held at the Crescenta Valley High School auditorium on March 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to discuss the environmental impact report on the proposed installation of stands and lights for the school field. The public is encouraged to attend to voice support and opposition of the project.
The auditorium is located in the 4300 block of Ramsdell Avenue in La Crescenta.
CVCA to Meet at Twelve Oaks
The Crescenta Valley Community Association will have its monthly meeting tonight, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m. On the agenda is a discussion on Mountain Oaks, the area on the south end of New York Avenue, as well as other new proposed projects.
Due to voting at the La Crescenta Library, this month’s meeting will be held at Twelve Oaks Senior Living at 2820 Sycamore Ave. in La Crescenta. The meeting will be in the dining room.

Portantino Hosting Parks Environmental Town Hall Meeting
Senator Anthony J. Portantino is hosting a town hall meeting tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 28, on SB 45 and its impact on the 25th Senate District. SB 45 is commonly referred to as the Wildfire Prevention, Safe Drinking Water, Drought Preparation, and Flood Protection Bond Act of 2020. The event will include a diverse group of participants including government officials, environmental agencies and activists to discuss the importance of the potential bond.
It will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Descanso Gardens, Van De Kamp Hall, 1418 Descanso Drive in La Cañada Flintridge.

Learning About Birds of Prey
On Friday, Feb. 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Friday Night Lecture at Brand Studios will be “Birds of Prey.” Information on raptors, owls, kestrels and hawks will be presented by lecturer Jane Gao, wildlife biologist. This event is free but there is limited seating. RSVP by calling (818) 548-3795.
This program is recommended for ages 14 and older. It is presented by the Trails and Open Space program and will be held at Brand Park, 1601 Mountain St. in Glendale.
Arbor Day 2020
Arbor Day 2020 is being celebrated at Casa Adobe de San Rafael Park, 1330 Dorothy Drive in Glendale on Tuesday, March 3 at 10 a.m. If it rains, festivities move to the Glendale Civic Auditorium, lower level, 1401 N. Verdugo Road. All are invited to purchase a tree for Arbor Day! After the last few years of intense drought and tree loss, contributions are more important than ever. Twenty-four inch box size trees are available for $150. There is also the option of supporting trees throughout the city for a suggested donation of $75. Contributions will be used to help reforest and care for all trees in local parks and public areas. Donations of any amount will be much appreciated and publicly acknowledged at Arbor Day.

CV CERT and Crescenta Valley Station to Host Disaster Preparedness Classes
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is an all-risk, all-hazard training. This valuable course is designed to help residents protect themselves, their family, their neighbors and neighborhoods in an emergency situation.
Certification classes are held at the CV Sheriff’s Station, 4554 Briggs Ave. in La Crescenta. The next session begins on Saturday, March 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Classes are Tuesday, March 10, Wednesday, March 11 and Thursday, March 12 from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendance to all classes is mandatory to receive certification.
