On Jan. 27 at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers responded to Brand Boulevard and Maple Street regarding a hit and run traffic collision involving pedestrians.
The investigation revealed a 2011 black Camaro struck a vehicle at Brand Boulevard and Harvard Street. The driver of the Camaro fled the scene with the victim trailing behind him. A second collision occurred when the driver of the Camaro struck a parked vehicle at Brand and Maple Street. The impact caused the suspect vehicle to jump the curb and collide with two adults and two children on the sidewalk. The vehicle nearly struck another adult and child who quickly jumped out of the way of the moving vehicle. The suspect fled on foot and was eventually stopped by witnesses. Although the suspect continued to attempt to free himself, the witnesses were able to successfully detain him until police arrived and take him into custody.
One of the pedestrians involved was an 11-month-old baby who was secured in a stroller and pinned against a building by the suspect’s vehicle. Luckily, he was uninjured. The two adults and a 7-year-old male were examined by hospital staff and later released with minor injuries.
The driver of the Camaro was identified as 32-year-old Luis Tecun of Glendale. At the conclusion of the investigation, Tecun was taken into custody for felony DUI hit and run after failing the field sobriety exam. Tecun has a prior DUI arrest and his license is currently suspended.
A search of Tecun’s vehicle revealed several open and unopened cans of beers on the passenger floorboard. Tecun remains in custody and his bail is set at $100,000.
