CVCA to Host Candidate Forum Tonight

The Crescenta Valley Community Association will have its first meeting of the year tonight, Jan. 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the La Crescenta Library community room. The meeting will include a forum for the Community College District, board of trustees candidates as well as the Glendale Unified School District, board of education candidates. For those who live in Glendale between Lowell and Pennsylvania avenues, the Far North Glendale homeowners will hold its annual meeting from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. just before the CVCA meeting.

Anniversary Fun at Library

The community is invited to take part in festivities surrounding the 10th anniversary of the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd. On Saturday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m., there will be balloon storytelling with Annie Banannie in the Children’s Library, at 11:30 a.m. learn about the library’s historical heritage with Mike Lawler in the meeting room for adults, tour the library at noon, listen to the CVHS jazz band at 1 p.m. and finish with cake at 2 p.m.

These events are sponsored by the Friends of the La Crescenta Library.

 

 

Vineyard Pruning at Deukmejian Park

The Stone Barn Vineyard Conservancy is hosting a pruning party at the vineyard at Deukmejian Wilderness Park on Sunday, Jan. 26 starting at 9 a.m. Participants should wear solid shoes and bring a hat, water, pruning shears, sharp knife, rake, tarp (small) for moving leaves, and a happy attitude.

City Releases Request for Proposals

The City of Glendale announced the release of a Request for Proposals in search of a qualified accelerator operator. Interested parties are invited to submit a proposal to operate and manage the future accelerator, made possible a $1 million State of California grant procured by Senator Anthony Portantino.

The deadline to submit a proposal is Wednesday, March 11 at 5 p.m.

‘Smarter Than a Scammer’ Free Luncheon

The Glendale Police Dept. and the Community Services & Parks Dept. have partnered with WISE & Healthy Aging to host Smarter Than a Scammer, a free educational forum for seniors on Jan. 28 at the Glendale Police Dept., located at 131 N. Isabel St. in Glendale in the community room. The forum is from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and is designed to educate seniors and create awareness of potential scams.

The presentations will be followed by a game of bingo and winners will be awarded with prizes. Seniors in need of transportation to the forum can contact Dial-A-Ride by calling (818) 548-3960. To RSVP for the event, please call (818) 548-3775 by Jan. 20.

Arbor Day Ceremony

Glendale Beautiful, in cooperation with the City of Glendale’s Community Services and Parks Department, cordially invites the community to participate in its annual observance of Arbor Day on Tuesday, March 3. A coffee social is at 10 a.m. followed by the program at 10:30 a.m. All are invited to the 70th Arbor Day ceremony at Casa Adobe de San Rafael, 1330 Dorothy Drive, Glendale (in case of rain, the ceremony will be held at Glendale Civic Auditorium – Lower Level, 1401 N. Verdugo Road).
