Land Use Meeting
The Land Use Committee of the CV Town Council meets tonight, Thursday, at 6:30 p.m. in the community room of the La Crescenta Library. On the agenda is information regarding outdoor lighting by representatives from Los Angeles County Public Works and Planning Dept. and a lighting expert from USC. There is currently a six-month moratorium on outside lighting, an issue that will also be addressed.
Also on the agenda is proposed development at 3037-3045 Foothill Blvd.
The La Crescenta Library is located at 2809 Foothill Blvd.
Agreement Reached Between Nurses and USC VHH
Registered nurses agreed to a contract ratification with USC-VHH administrators that cover 200 nurses in the bargaining unit at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital.
The RNs, affiliated with the California Nurses Association (CNA), stated the agreement included significant improvements and workplace protections that will enhance their ability to provide quality patient care.
Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Morning
All are invited to the first open gate event of the New Year on Sunday morning, Jan. 8 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. This is a chance for everyone to visit the Preserve and wander the trail at their own pace, enjoying the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers can bring their cameras to capture the early morning light.
The gate will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions and talk about this community resource, which the community worked so hard to protect and develop.
The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta. Please wear sturdy shoes to walk the trail.
This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages, no reservations required.  Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

City Hosting Marijuana Info Meeting
The City of Glendale is hosting a community meeting on Proposition 64, the Adult Use of Marijuana Act, on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 6:30 p.m. Information will be given on the facts of the proposition and existing local ordinances. The meeting will be held at the Glendale Civic Auditorium.

Homeless Count Planned
On Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. teams of two to four persons will be trained to identify, count and record homeless persons and encampments from the safety of their cars.
After the homeless are counted and tallied the results will then be sent to the Los Angeles Housing Authority who will then use these numbers to apply for necessary funds and services to help the homeless.
To register to be a counter, go to www.theycountwillyou.org. Once on the website choose Day and Location: Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017 San Fernando and Santa Clarita Area. Be sure to fill in all the requested information. Local areas assigned to cover will either be the Municipal Building at 7747 Foothill Blvd. in Tujunga or Light on the Corner Church at 1911 Waltonia Ave. in Montrose.
Portantino Lands Key Legislative Assignments
Recently Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin de León announced standing committee chairs and committee assignments for the upcoming legislative session. Sen. Anthony Portantino of La Cañada Flintridge has been selected to serve as chair of Budget and Fiscal Review Subcommittee No. 1 on Education. In addition, Portantino was tapped to serve on several other influential committees: Banking and Finance, Budget and Fiscal Review, Governmental Organization, Insurance and Public Employment and Retirement. Committee membership will be adopted by the Senate Rules Committee on Jan. 11.
