La Crescenta Elementary sixth-grader Samantha Gilmore (left) lead the Pledge of Allegiance at Tuesday’s Glendale Unified School District board meeting. As her mom, grandparents and Principal Kim Bishop looked on, Samantha demonstrated poise and grace under pressure as she introduced her family and spoke of her school and how much she enjoys attending La Crescenta Elementary.

From CVHS, members of the newly formed Prom Plus Club addressed the crowd (right), speaking of the club, its mission and goals.

The students also extended an invitation to the Back to School barbecue taking place Thursday night prior to visiting classrooms. The barbecue is a fund raiser for Prom Plus.
