Recently the Prom Plus organization held an ice cream social at the Fire House youth center to thank those who have volunteered to keep this 30-plus-year organization moving into the future.
President Drew Massingill and vice president Asia Bribiesca-Hedin were among the board members who welcomed everyone to the organization’s first ice cream social. They encouraged everyone to continue to volunteer … and to get more parents and community members to help.
The beginnings of Prom Plus date back to 1991 after the murder of a Crescenta Valley High School student at an unsupervised after-prom event. Since then Prom Plus, a non-profit organization, has given CVHS seniors and their guests a safe space to enjoy a supervised after-prom party. Prom Plus has, and continues, to hold its after-prom party at the YMCA of the Foothills, 1930 Foothill Blvd., thanks to the generosity and support of that organization.
But as the new school year gets underway, Prom Plus has put out the call for more support through funds and volunteers. On Sept. 11, Prom Plus members will be hosting the Crescenta Valley High School Back to School BBQ, a fundraising outreach for Prom Plus. To find out how to help by providing donations and time please visit www.promplus.org or email info@promplus.org.
