Winners Announced in Water Art Contests

The first place grand prize winner in the GWP “Being Water Wise Is …” contest is Sydney Kim.

Eighty entries were submitted by Glendale students this year for GWP’s “Being Water Wise Is…” art contest. From this talented group, 15 posters have now been forwarded to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) for its regional Student Art Calendar Contest. 

Among the winners is grand prize sinner Sydney Kim, a ninth grade student at Crescenta Valley High School and Sena Matsudaira, a fifth grade student from Dunsmore Elementary School. Moving on to the Metropolitan Water District’s regional contest is Samuel Hansu, a fifth grade student from Monte Vista Elementary School, Renee Oh, a seventh grade student from Village Christian School, Sophia Kim, a sixth grade student from Monte Vista Elementary School and Hyena Kim, a 10th grade student from Crescenta Valley High School.

The third place winner is Sena Matsudaira.

In addition, the top three winners of GWP’s art contest will also receive Amazon gift cards in the amounts of $100, $75 and $50. 

The Foothill Municipal Water District (FMWD) announced the winners of its 2025 FMWD “Being Water Wise Is…” Student Art Contest. The annual art contest is open to students in Altadena, La Crescenta and La Cañada Flintridge from kindergarten to high school. The art contest’s theme is stewardship and conservation of water. This means protecting water resources for future generations through water conservation and education.

The winners of Foothill MWD art contest shall be entered into Metropolitan Water District’s Student Art Calendar Contest that encompasses participating water agencies throughout Southern California.

Among the student winners in the kindergarten – sixth grade category are Ellie Baik from Monte Vista Elementary who took second place and in the seventh – 12th grade category Hyeona Kim of Crescenta Valley High School took first place.

Monte Vista Elementary School student Samuel Hansu will be moving onto the Metropolitan Water District’s regional contest.
Village Christian School will be moving on to the MWD regional contest.
Sophia Kim is a sixth grade student at Monte Vista Elementary School.
Hyena Kim is a 10th grade student at CVHS.
