In May Vons in the far north area of Glendale (3233 Foothill Blvd.) celebrated the reopening of its store after months of remodeling. 

During the celebration, which included music and tastes of various products, students of Valley View Elementary School were on hand to sing their version of “You’re a Grand Old Flag.” They adjusted the lyrics to reflect their feelings for the neighborhood Vons grocery store and the importance it plays in the community. 

In addition they were awarded a $2,500 donation for the Valley View second grade. 

“Rampage from the Rams and Chester from Cheetos were a big hit with the kids,” said teacher Lisa Messineo.
