CAP Offers Scholarships to Local Students

The Cañada Auxiliary of Professionals (CAP) of Action League of the Foothills (ALF) is now offering two scholarships of $1,000 for students who will be attending a two-year college or an accredited occupational program in fall 2026. 

Eligible applicants must attend a high school in the La Cañada, La Crescenta, Montrose/North Glendale or Sunland-Tujunga zip codes, regardless of the community college or trade school the applicant will attend. Students already enrolled at Pasadena or Glendale Community College also may apply. High school applicants must anticipate graduation by June 2026 with a GPA of at least 2.5 and intend to enroll in a two-year college or occupational program in the fall of 2026.

Applications can be printed from the ALF website –www.alfoothills.org – click on “Programs,” then “Scholarships.” Applications also may be obtained from counselors and/or scholarship staff at applicants’ schools. The application deadline is May 1.

Completed applications must be submitted to the CAP Scholarship Committee, ALF, 4607 Oakwood Ave., LCF, CA 91011, no later than May 1. Applicants: please include a one-page typed personal essay (not to exceed 300 words) addressing career goals, achievements, talents, character traits, experiences and life activities; transcript verification of grades; résumé; and one letter of recommendation with a completed CAP scholarship recommendation form in a sealed envelope. Incomplete applications will not be considered. 

Applications are reviewed in May and awards are presented at school end-of-term awards ceremonies. Selected candidates and family will be invited to attend the September CAP meeting to be introduced to the organization’s membership. Special congratulations to Mona Dillard, the 2025 CAP Scholarship recipient. Dillard is a graduate of La Cañada High School (LCHS) and is currently studying at Santa Barbara Community College with plans to pursue a career in international business law. During her time at LCHS, she was a finalist for the Harvard International Relations Scholars Program Capstone Team and a finalist for the William G Ericson Photography Competition. She was extensively involved in the Model UN serving as its president. In addition, she served as an LCHS college and career student representative, interned for a city council campaign, participated in the Tournament of Roses rose court and worked as part of LCUSD Facilities grant writing team.
