The YWCA Glendale and Pasadena, in partnership with the Glendale Commission on the Status of Women, is hosting its annual Purple Tie Awards today, Oct. 30, focused on raising awareness about domestic violence, uplifting and celebrating survivors and recognizing individuals who exemplify leadership in service. The YWCA will present Chief Jeff Brooks with the Purple Tie Award for 2025 in recognition of his leadership of the Glendale Fire Dept. in engagement and service to the community.
The event is at 1 p.m. at Glendale Fire Station 21, 405 Oak St. in Glendale.
“This collaboration centers on honoring survivors’ agency, recognizing that healing begins with choice,” said Debra Suh, CEO of YWCA Glendale and Pasadena. “Whether a domestic violence survivor is seeking immediate shelter, connection to advocacy services, or simply a moment of safety to regroup, fire stations now serve as a trusted point of access.”
Through the new partnership, all Glendale Fire Dept. stations will serve as designated Safe Havens, providing immediate, confidential support to individuals fleeing domestic violence. Survivors can seek shelter and assistance at any fire station, where trained personnel will connect them directly with YWCA’s 24/7 crisis hotline and emergency services.
