Glendale Library, Arts & Culture and Brand Library & Art Center present Crossings in collaboration with Munzón Gallery. Curated by Elizabeth Munzón and Mister Toledo, the exhibition invites viewers to explore the collective narrative of artists navigating their American identities while honoring their ancestral roots.
Centered primarily on Los Angeles-based artists of Latin American descent, Crossings also includes voices from Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI), Middle Eastern and other immigrant communities. The exhibition reflects on the layered experiences of artists whose works are deeply informed by the environments they or their ancestors inhabit or were raised in, and will offer a poignant meditation on the evolving dynamics of cultural preservation, adaptation, and belonging across time and place.
This exhibition is a part of the 2025 SUR:biennial. Founded in 2011 by Cerritos College Art Gallery and Rio Hondo College Art Gallery, the SUR:biennial seeks to explore the complex notions of globalization and exchange that take place in the ambiguous borderlands between Los Angeles and the broader “south.” The independently curated biennial exhibitions showcase recent and newly commissioned works by local and international artists who have been influenced by the cultures and artistic traditions of Mexico, Central & South America and the Caribbean.
Crossings will be on view from Oct. 11 through Jan. 3, 2026. Artists featured in the exhibition will be present at the opening reception on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
