
On May 18, the Glendale Youth Orchestra (GYO) presents the 36th season finale concert. Celebrating the 150th anniversary of composer Maurice Ravel’s birth, the concert features fan favorite and the always popular “Bolero” and “Pictures at an Exhibition” written by Mussorgsky and adapted for orchestra by Ravel. Tina Park of Crescenta Valley High School is the 2025 concerto winner and will perform on flute “Ballade” by Reinecke. The concert will also be celebrating the GYO class of graduating seniors.
This concert is supported, in part, by a grant from the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Dept. of Arts and Culture.
The GYO is supported by a grant from the California Arts Council through the Arts and Cultural Organizations General Operating Support Grants.
Tickets are $18 and may be purchased from the Alex Theatre box office. Students, children and seniors may purchase tickets for $16. The Alex Theatre is located at 216 N. Brand Blvd. in Glendale. For more information, visit www.thealex.com.
Tina Park is a junior at Crescenta Valley High School and has been playing the flute for eight years under the guidance of Tina Yoo. She has competed in the Southwestern Youth Music Festival (SYMF) and has completed her Certificate of Merit program. A dedicated musician, she has been a member of Glendale Youth Orchestra since 2021 and has participated in her school’s marching band since freshman year, serving as section leader since her sophomore year. Among the many pieces she has performed with GYO, her favorite is Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique.”
Beyond music, she enjoys listening to a wide range of genres and spending time with her close friends. In the future, she plans to major in mathematics while continuing to pursue her passion for music.
