The Kiwanis Club of Glendale meets on Fridays at noon. On Friday, Sept. 5, the Club welcomes a presentation by former rock journalist turned playwright, novelist and film producer Anthony Mora.
The cost to attend Friday meetings, which includes lunch and program, is $25. All are welcome.

The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge hosts a variety of events for the community. Among them are:
- Senior social is today, Sept. 4 from 11 a.m. to noon. The cost is $5.
- Community Cares Volunteer Event on Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. We’ll create simple, meaningful messages and designs that will brighten someone’s day when they discover a stone painted with care. We’ll also be creating a kindness rock garden at the Community Center and dropping kindness rocks off around the community.

COMMUNITY SERVICES & PARKS HOSTS SEPTEMBER EVENTS
Glendale Outdoors! (GO!) Community Program takes place at Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 3429 Markridge Road in Glendale/La Crescenta on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. The public is invited for an interpretive hike in Deukmejian Wilderness Park, a nature craft, nature themed games and a tour of the Stone Barn Nature Center. Water, snacks and bus transportation from Pacific Community Center, leaving at 8:30 a.m. and returning at 12:30 p.m., will be provided.
Parents’ Night Out is a drop off event for kids 6 to 12 years old. The night includes fun activities, friends, food and a movie. The fee is $20 per child.
Participants are encouraged to bring pajamas, a blanket and a pillow. It is held on Sept. 19 and Oct. 17 from 6 p.m. to midnight at Sparr Heights Community Center, 1613 Glencoe Way in Glendale 91208 and on Sept. 26 and Nov. 21 from 6 p.m. to midnight at Pacific Community Center, 501 S. Pacific Ave. in Glendale.

Volunteer workday at the Riverwalk are on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Enter at 300 Paula Ave. in Glendale. Volunteers are needed to help remove invasive plants from the landscaped areas along the LA River. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes and protective clothing and bring water. A full moon night hike takes place at Deukmejian Wilderness Park on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This night hike is on moderately steep trails. Lunar cycles’ affect on wildlife, insects and even humans will be explored. Hikers should wear sturdy shoes, bring water and a flashlight; red light covers will be provided. DANCING AS EXERCISE
Dancing As Exercise is a free ongoing weekly event sponsored by the Los Angeles County Park program for seniors (50 plus) as a form of staying healthy.
There is live music every Friday from 10 a.m. to noon in the Park’s building at 3901 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta. Light refreshments and water are provided along with socialization and information about other park activities.
Dancing, per se, is not required; single persons are welcome.

The Verdugo Hills Women’s Chorus holds rehearsals for its fall season every Monday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. beginning Sept. 8 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 3561 Foothill Blvd. at the corner of Dunsmore Avenue in La Crescenta. This friendly group of volunteers performs at retirement homes and community groups in December and May.

‘IMBIBING LA’ TOPIC OF 2ND SATURDAY PROGRAM

LA has been a center of winemaking and brewing since the wine-loving Spaniards first settled here. The presenter for this program is journalist, author and culinary historian Richard Foss. Foss will talk about how Los Angelenos’ tastes in alcoholic beverages have shifted through the years from the first communion wines served by monks to the Prohibition Era of law-dodging partiers to modern beverage craftsmen.

ACTIVITIES AT SUNLAND SENIOR CENTER
The Sunland Senior Center offers a selection of classes and activities daily.
