Ice cream, balloons, souvenir spins and photo ops were the order of the day when Baskin-Robbins put on its own birthday party nationally. Glendale’s Baskin-Robbins on North Central Avenue added a twist when “BR” the mascot dropped by to say hello to little kids … and big kids. On Friday, Dec. 6, the store and parking lot were wall-to-wall kids as their parents shelled out practically pennies for scoops.

“BR,” the Baskin-Robbins mascot, attracts Glendale customers to the chain’s North Central location. At the ice cream store’s 80th birthday party, all scoops are 80 cents.

Glendale City Councilmember and former Glendale mayor Ardy Kassakhian stopped by for his own scoop.

“The first Baskin-Robbins store was in Glendale,” he said. “I’m here because I take pride in Glendale; besides I like ice cream.”

Kassakhian posed for a quick photo op with Glendale BR owners Sharis and Edwin Amirian.

“They are long-time Glendale residents,” said Kassakhian.

Flyers full of BR stickers were passed out. The kids’ favorite? Long Live Ice Cream!
