CV Fireworks Celebrates the Fourth

By Mary O’KEEFE

The Crescenta Valley Fireworks will be held on July 4th with the show originating at Crescenta Valley High School, the traditional location; however, there will not be anyone allowed on the field to watch the show.

The CV Fireworks has been a tradition for many throughout the foothills and Glendale but this year the CV Fireworks Association was concerned the show might not go on due to lack of funding.

“The community has really come together,” said Mike Shaar, president of CV Fireworks Association.

It was touch and go for a while but Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger joined the community in financially supporting the display. The fireworks show will be the biggest show CV has done.

“There are going to be over a thousand shells,” Shaar said. “It should be quite impressive.”

This is about 300 more fireworks shells than in previous displays. The fireworks will be shot higher in the sky this year, too, allowing people farther away to view them.

Although there will not be the traditional show at the Crescenta Valley High School track and field there will still be a way for people to come together to view the fireworks. There will be a 4th of July celebration at Community Life Church, 4441 La Crescenta Ave.

“We will have food trucks and live music,” said Emanuel David, pastor of Discipleship and Spiritual Formation at the church.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. but people can arrive earlier to reserve a space. Fireworks start at 9 p.m. There will be no charge to park or an entrance fee at the Community Life Church. There will be an opportunity to donate to the CV Fireworks Association to ensure an in-person fireworks show in 2022.

Prom Plus will be offering parking at the CVHS teachers parking lot beginning at 6 p.m. (located on the east side of Ramsdell Avenue just north of Community Avenue). The parking spaces will be $5, and goody bags with soda or water and candy can be purchased for $2. The funds go directly to the non-profit Prom Plus. For information on Prom Plus visit promplus.org

It is advised to show up early to get a spot to park at either location.

Those who are watching the fireworks can enjoy synched music by visiting cvweekly.com and clicking on the Videos tab and click on the Crescenta Valley Fireworks Stream Along Music 2021 title, which will be live on the 4th of July.
