For those who regularly go garage shopping on Saturday morning, the courtyard sale at the historic Thursday Clubhouse on Woodleigh Lane fit the bill.

“It’s a disease! We love ‘garage sailing’ on weekends,” said La Crescenta resident Carol Busch. Shopping buddy Wendy Hart agreed.

A packed parking lot, dotted with red balloons, marked the way to the entrance. Several dozen shoppers were already lined up one hour before the 8 a.m. start on Saturday, March 28.

Once inside the entrance, bargain hunters grabbed cardboard boxes with plans to fill them to the brim with household items, electronics, jewelry, sporting goods, toys and vintage treasures. With everything priced to sell, the Club’s patio, ballroom and side room held the goodies – all donated through word of mouth and estate sales’ classy left-overs.

Former Club treasurer Nancy Antonoplis estimated the day’s proceeds would be about $5,000, earmarked for upkeep for the Clubhouse built in 1926.

“For the seventh year in a row, many people keep coming back,” said Club President Jane Workman, adding, “There are fire victims here.”

The Thursday Club is a social, cultural and philanthropic organization.
