Strong Show of Support at Pancake Breakfast

Prom Plus, the organization that hosts an after-prom event at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA, held its second annual pancake breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Sadler Hall on the campus of St. Luke’s of the Mountains. Coinciding with the pancake breakfast was a food donation project held by the Crescenta-Cañada Lions Club.

A strong showing was seen from the Crescenta Valley Town Council. In addition to Harry Leon, Chris Kilpatrick, Dede Mueller and JoAnne Stupakis were among the people who came for a hot breakfast of pancakes, sausage, coffee and orange juice. Money from the fundraiser is dedicated to providing activities for the post-prom event. Donations are still being accepted; go to www.promplus.org for details.

Harry Leon is one of the supporters who filled his plate with yummy hot cakes.

“I like the idea; it’s a good program,” he said of Prom Plus. “I want to support it. My kids went to Prom Plus and I hope it’s around for their kids.”

Prom Plus was started in 1994 after the 1991 murder of a Crescenta Valley High School senior at an unsupervised post-prom hotel party.

“If we learn from the past we can prepare for the future,” said Leon.

Prom Plus organizers are next preparing for its inaugural bingo game at Verdugo Hills Memorial Hall, 4011 La Crescenta Ave. The cost of admission is $25 per person, which buys a book of 40 bingo cards (four cards per game) and a dauber. Each game pays $100 or more.
