A Staple of our Community

The MV Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the renewal membership of El Charro Restaurant. Whether you have passed by, used to go in, or still are a patron of the 3741 N. Verdugo Road, Montrose location, you know it’s there. It’s a staple, a home again type of business. It’s the place where many of us had our Taco Tuesday celebrations and, yes, they are still offering their very delicious tacos. The Montrose~Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce wants to invite you to #meetusat #elcharro Tuesday, July 10 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

If you haven’t been there in a while, here is some info from owner Deborah: Hours of operation are Monday, 4 p.m. – 9 p.m., Tuesday – Saturday 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. and closed on Sunday. There is public parking and El Charro offers catering services and a “to go” menu as well as a children’s menu. They’re known for generous portions and fair prices for “old school” Mexican style food and decor. We appreciate that because El Charro comes with “old school” good service and authentic good food.

El Charro Restaurant has been open for 63 years, longer than some of us have been alive. The property itself has been owned and operated by the same family, the Beljan Family, for 93 years. That is really saying something … almost a century of serving Montrose and it’s still going.

If you aren’t aware, of the daily specials, take a look at what is offered Monday – Saturday: Monday – Dinner specials & $5 mai tais; Taco Tuesday since 1990; Wednesday – Margarita Monday; Thursday – Tostadas all day $7.95; Friday ¬– Lunch and dinner specials and carnitas; Saturday – Breakfast specials from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Every household, every restaurant has that special dish that is a “must have,” the signature El Charro dishes are chili verde, fajitas, refried beans, Albondigas soup, housemade salsa and carnitas.

Deborah has been with El Charro for 28 years. She started out at 18 years old as the bartender. She took over as the owner 10 years ago. Deborah had lived in the area for 26 years. She loves to cook and entertain, and that passion makes her a great hands-on owner. You can find her behind the bar, in the kitchen, waiting tables, washing dishes and in the office. She is everywhere in the business where she is needed, and that too gives her a great understanding of all the facets of the restaurant and of her customers.

A few other noteworthy items to share: Long standing bar specials during football season include chili cheese dogs at the bar only and daily bar drink specials. The bar seats 20 with two flat screens for viewing. The dining room seats 46, and just next to the bar there is a large flat screen as well. Space can be rented for large family and community events. El Charro will hosting the CVHS Falcons Class of ’78 reunion.

And behind every solid business are the employees and the customers.

Longevity – two servers and two kitchen employees have been with El Charro for over 20 years. Bartender Rick has been there for 15 years. Deborah has served five generations of customers who still come in.

Whether a loyal customer or new to the area and the location of El Charro, go on in. Deborah and her staff will treat you well and feed you well … and don’t forget to check out the daily special!

We look forward to seeing you Tuesday, July 10 for #meetusat #elcharro!
