To Be of Service

That is not just a statement, but truly words with action from Julie Kay Stallcup, Melissa Gerard and the entire team of Revolution Dance Center.

On Sunday, March 3, on behalf of the Montrose~Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce, I was honored to participate as a speaker, along with Jeannie Bone of the Montrose Shopping Park Association, at the RDC Service Project event. The entire dance center is working on a year-long service project. They will be raising money and awareness for the non-profit SHE-IS. The Sunday afternoon event was one of the studio’s showcases raising money and awareness to help keep the youth of our community safe.

Part of the project involved providing education about the ongoing issue of child trafficking “with around 10,000 victims a year,” according to RDC information provided.

SHE-IS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe environment for young people that assists them in overcoming feelings of shame, anger, mistrust and betrayal while reinforcing them with a sense of pride within themselves. Both SHE-IS and RDC believe in the healing power of dance. Both organizations lead with their hearts as they offer healing through the arts. And as I addressed the audience at the beginning of the afternoon’s event, I reminded all there that our lovely community of Montrose is known to be located in the heart of the foothills. How apropos that the location reflects the intention of these organizations collaborating their efforts … From the Heart.

The student dancers shared their beautiful talents with the audience and supporters of the event and they showcased their understanding of their personal ability to be of service. They shared their informed and educated perspectives. They provided fresh insight to the impact of honest conversation. They exemplified that, when they are spoken to with honesty and integrity, they can reciprocate with grace and goodness.

The afternoon was such a meaningful and glorious example of this very special community we live and work in, and its citizens who are truly here to give back by being of service.
