Dr. William F. Schubert’s 100th birthday was celebrated by the Glendale Chamber of Commerce at the Oakmont Country Club on Sunday, Sept. 7. The joint was jumpin’ with close to 150 guests and a birthday cake that sizzled.
Dr. Schubert, who retired at 96, practiced from 1956 to 2022. His home and office were in La Cañada. Specializing in family medicine, he is a past chief of medical staff at Verdugo Hills Hospital.
Family members include wife Gloria, four children, 14 grandchildren and 23 great grands with most of the family present at his milestone birthday. Granddaughter Alison Abbey and her son (his great grandson) Bodey Swanson flew in from London for the festivities. The family was captured in photo after photo taken by friends and VHH-USC co-workers. Staff member Lisa Yeghiayan worked with Dr. Schubert for more than 30 years.

Just a smattering of the 23 great grandchildren who attended the 100th birthday party of their great grandfather Dr. William Schubert.

“He deserves to be recognized,” she said. “He is the best, nicest physician I’ve ever worked for.”
After a lunch of salmon, pasta and all the trimmings, Dr. Schubert visited each table of guests. Wife Gloria helped corral the many great grandchildren for the picture taking. A birthday cake had a candle that sizzled. (Dr. Schubert passed on blowing out that one.)

At party’s end, the good doctor thanked friends and family for sharing his birthday.
“Thank you for coming and taking part,” he said. “Everything will make good memories.”
