More than 7,000 students received degrees during the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s spring commencement ceremonies on May 11-12.

Among the graduates were Michael Bonino-Britsch of Glendale, College of Letters and Science, master of public affairs, and John Louk from La Cañada, College of Letters and Science, bachelor of science, computer sciences.

Wheaton College student athlete Erika Johnson of Glendale was named to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Academic All-Conference team. The Academic All-Conference team consists of letter winners from CCIW member institutions who achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher.

Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Thunder Athletics program has won five NCAA Division III Championships since 1984, and Wheaton student-athletes have won 31 Division III individual National Championships all-time. Kristen Hicks of La Crescenta graduated magna cum laude from Whitworth University having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in international studies-political science. Hicks was also named to the provost’s honor roll for the spring semester.

Lois Lee of La Crescenta was also named to the Whitworth University provost’s honor roll for spring semester 2017.

The students qualified for the academic honor society by maintaining a grade-point average of at least 3.75 during the semester.

Located in Spokane, Washington, Whitworth is a private, liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The university, which has an enrollment of nearly 3,000 students, offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Lucas Rowton, of La Cañada Flintridge graduated from Fort Lewis College on April 29. Rowton graduated with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science.

Erica Son, an occupational therapy major, was named to the dean’s list in Ithaca College’s School of Health Sciences and Human Performance for the spring 2017 semester.

Sewon Park of La Cañada, Flintridge, 12, earned placement on the Worcester Academy headmaster’s list for the 2016-17 school year. The honor represents the achievement that he has earned through academic excellence, challenge and personal growth.

Katie Ehrlich of Glendale was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2017 semester at Washington University in St. Louis. Ehrlich is enrolled in the university’s College of Art in the Sam Fox School of design and visual arts.

To qualify for the dean’s list in the College of Art, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or above and be enrolled in at least 14 graded units.

Madeleine Braun, a first-year student at the University of San Diego from La Cañada Flintridge, was chosen for the university’s honors program this fall.

The program is designed to provide smart, passionate and engaged students with challenges and opportunities that will allow them to achieve their intellectual goals. It emphasizes teaching excellence, small seminar-style classes, and a core curriculum of innovative courses.

Arvin Sarkissian of La Crescenta was recently named an Ervin Scholar at Washington University in St. Louis. Sarkissian, one of 35 Ervin Scholars selected this year, is a first-year student at Washington University.

The Ervin Scholars Program awards scholarships to incoming first-year students who demonstrate exceptional intellectual and leadership achievements, and who have shown a commitment to community service and bringing diverse people together. Scholars are actively involved in the Washington University community and continue the legacy of the late John B. Ervin on campus.

The award is for full- and partial-tuition scholarships and is renewable for all four years of undergraduate study. Tuition for the 2017-18 academic year is $50,650.

Jason Rowton of La Cañada started coursework at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado on Aug. 28 as a first-time freshman. Rowton’s major is undeclared.
