Founded in 1943, the Assistance League of Glendale has been proudly serving the local community for over 80 years. It currently supports seven core philanthropic programs:
- ALG Cares – The newest program of the ALG, it partners with the Ascencia Resource Center to distribute hygiene kits, blankets, flip flops and essentials to those experiencing homelessness and are entering their journey to permanent housing.
- Authors & Illustrators – Bringing published authors and artists into classrooms for hands-on learning. Five local schools benefit annually, receiving books and funds to grow their libraries.
- Operation School Bell® – In the 2024-25 school year, ALG supported 546 GUSD students with health kits, books and new clothing. It also provided jackets and shoe vouchers to foster and at-risk youth.
- Scholarships – Awarded to eight local students from area high schools and Glendale Community College transfer programs, supporting their journey toward higher education.
- Senior Neighborhood Fellowship – Offering monthly lunch and entertainment at a discounted $3 for seniors.
- Vocational Education – Providing tools, materials and funding to help disabled youth pursuing hands-on skills in Thrift Alley, the ALG thrift shop.
- Welcome Home! – Helping individuals transition from homelessness to permanent housing through Ascencia by furnishing it with home essentials.
In total, ALG programs and volunteers touched the lives of over 5,500 individuals during the 2024–25 fiscal year.
Those who want to give back are invited to take part in one of the many volunteer opportunities through ALG’s chapter or with its two amazing auxiliaries:
- Assisteens® – Open to students in grades seven –12, it teaches leadership, volunteerism and community involvement.
- Las Caritas – A professional auxiliary supporting ALG philanthropic efforts and running its own meaningful projects.
Those who want to learn more can visit alglendale.org for information on its programs and learn how to get involved.
