Among the many local spots the VHWC members performed was at Twelve Oaks.

Verdugo Hills Women’s Chorus (VHWC) has entertained in the foothill community for over 60 years. Originally known as the PTA Singers, and eventually becoming a member of the California Women’s Chorus (CWC), they continue to bring music to many local organizations as well as senior living facilities. With the onset of COVID, entertainment at these facilities, as well as many others, came to a standstill. Many singers waited out the almost three-year invasion of COVID to be able to sing again; however, some singers did not return so VHWC and other CWC choruses have been gathering new members and building up their choruses. VHWC has found so many talented members of the community who want to sing and have joined their group.

Membership in CWC affords singing groups an opportunity to participate in a yearly (except for COVID years) concert. This year’s concert will be held at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel on Arrow Drive in San Diego. But first, singers have to practice and eventually memorize the music that has been chosen for the concert. Director Ki Park has prepared the members of VHWC with excellent instructions and they are ready to go.

The recent combined area rehearsal took place on Saturday, March 4 at First Friends Church, 13205 Philadelphia St. in Whittier. Seven choruses, all members of CWC whose members live in different areas of northern and Southern California, met in Downey at 8 a.m. where the singers began to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. Of note is the selection of guest director Ashlyn Brown, a San Diego local.   Brown is a member of the Sweet Harmony Singers and also serves as its director. She is a very lively and precise director and Verdugo Hills Women’s Chorus is anxious to sing under her direction.
