Dignity Health – Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center (GMHHC) recently announced its centennial celebration, marking 100 years of healing and humankindness to the greater Glendale community.
This milestone stands as a testament to the commitment of the hospital’s physicians, nurses and caregivers who have delivered compassionate and high-quality care.
Founded in 1926 by six community members, GMHHC has grown to become a cornerstone of health and well-being in the region. Initially opening with 47 hospital beds, GMHHC now operates 334 beds and serves over 70,000 patients annually. While evolving to meet the changing needs of its patient population, the hospital continually upheld its mission. Its longevity speaks volumes about the resilience and dedication of all who have contributed to the hospital’s legacy.
“Glendale Memorial’s 100-year journey is a true inspiration, reflecting the enduring power of humankindness in action,” said Betsy Hart, president and CEO. “Each day, our doctors, nurses and hospital staff embody the very best of healthcare, providing not just medical treatment, but genuine human connection and support that truly heals.”
GMHHC’s ability to thrive for more than a century is a demonstration of its strong foundation and forward-thinking vision. The hospital holds the distinction of being the first community hospital in Glendale to offer accredited robotic-assisted surgery and the first in Los Angeles County to offer accredited colorectal surgery.
Furthermore, GMHHC boasts exceptional quality and safety ratings, recognized as a Center of Excellence for robotic surgery and colorectal surgery, and a Joint Commission-certified Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center.
“This anniversary underscores our pledge to accessible, quality care and the well-being of the community around us,” said Hart. “The hospital is continuously adapting and innovating to ensure our patients receive the highest standard of care now and for many years to come. We look forward to building upon this rich heritage and continuing to serve with humankindness.”
The hospital will host a series of special recognition events throughout the week and in the upcoming months to honor the profound contributions of its caregivers and staff.
