CSW Seeking Student Officio Members
The City of Glendale Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is seeking two new student ex officio members to serve for one year beginning in November.
The Commission is looking for students who are high school juniors or above attending an institution of higher learning, and/or live in Glendale; dedicated to the Glendale community; passionate about helping people and interested in women’s issues. The Commission meets on the second Monday of each quarter at 5:30 p.m. (February, May, August, November) at Glendale City Hall.

Science Fiction Writer Gives Reading at GCC
The Los Angeles Writers Reading Series at Glendale Community College presents a reading by science fiction author Charles Yu on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 12:20 p.m. in the Student Center. A short Q&A will follow.
Yu is the author of the novel “How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe” and the short story collections “Third Class Superhero” and “Sorry Please Thank You.”
The ongoing Los Angeles Writers Reading Series is coordinated by GCC English instructor Claire Phillips to celebrate local writers and to give students access to literary events where they can meet and talk with authors who wrote some of the material used in their English classes.

The event is free and open to the public. The college is located at 1500 N. Verdugo Road in Glendale.
Walk for Water on Saturday
The Walk for Water charity event is coming to Montrose on Sept. 15 at Montrose Community Park. The event is hosted by Glendale Sunrise Rotary Club. The walk will benefit the Aid Africa program, which does charitable work for African people, particularly in the country of Uganda.
An estimated 40 people are expected to take part in the walk. It will start at 9:30 a.m. in the park, and participants will make their way down to Montrose Fire Station 29, 2465 Honolulu Ave., carrying empty jugs. Once at the fire station, participants will fill their containers with five gallons of water and make the approximate one-mile trek back to the park.
The walk is expected to end around noon.
Registration for the event is $25 and includes a T-shirt. Registration takes place on Sept. 15 at 9 a.m.
