Sport Clips
Hello, Crescenta Valley Weekly readers! Matt Allen, executive director of the CV Chamber of Commerce, here. I want to begin this month by taking some time to shine a spotlight on a local business and the wonderful couple behind it.
Sport Clips is located at 890 Town Center Drive in unit A of the La Cañada Town Center and is operated by Adam Ralphs and his wife Stacey. Adam and Stacey have lived in the Crescenta Valley all their lives and even met each other while they were both students at CV High. Adam had previously attended Dunsmore and Clark on his way to CV while Stacey had been a student of Mountain Avenue and Rosemont Middle School. Adam worked with Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream until Nestle purchased the company about five years ago and slowly but surely eliminated or moved a high number of jobs. Not interested in relocating his entire family to Houston, Adam decided to leave the company with the hope of keeping his family local. Around that time, a franchise opportunity for Sport Clips became available and Adam and Stacey jumped at the opportunity.
After some research, they realized that the idea of a sports-themed hair salon, geared specifically to men and boys, wasn’t available locally. They also discovered that the company was founded by a veteran, Gordon Logan, and that they are very active in charities that give back to service members. Specifically, the VFW’s “Help a Hero Scholarship Program,” which awards scholarships of up to $5,000 each, to deserving veterans in need of financial assistance to complete their education. This was too good for Adam and Stacey to pass up and in March 2014, Sport Clips La Cañada was open for business.
In the four years since, Adam and Stacey have sent both of their kids off to college, celebrated 30 years of marriage and, through Sport Clips, continue to help the men and boys in the community keep it high and tight.
The Annual 9/11 Remembrance Motorcade is scheduled for this coming Tuesday, Sept. 11. This year’s motorcade will feature 50 vehicles and will include everything from fire trucks, police cruisers and other emergency response vehicles to a multitude of classic cars driven by the Early Rodders. We will start at the Ralphs parking lot on Foothill and Rosemont at 9 a.m. and work our way through the community ending up at La Cañada High at around 10:30 a.m. If you happen to find yourself on the route, please take a moment to come outside and wave to our local first responders. It only takes a moment of your time and is a great way to remember those who lost their lives defending our freedom either on this soil or abroad. It is also a great way to say “thank you” for the sacrifices they make and have yet to make because, if this community had been attacked, many of our first responders would have also been lost and they would have been proud to make the ultimate sacrifice in our defense.
Next Wednesday marks the 18th Annual Foothills Community Business Expo. We have a number of exhibitors from all three chambers planning to attend who are very excited to meet you and answer any and all questions you may have about their goods or services. We will also be holding the ever-popular shredding event in the lower east parking lot. Join us at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 12 in the fourth floor conference room from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There is no other networking event in the Crescenta Valley quite like it all year long.
