Surprise Find in Local Hillsides

The Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy (AFC) announced this week that it appears there is a new mountain lion in the Verdugos. Wildlife photographers Johanna Turner and Roy Dunn made the find in mid-June when they checked cameras that had been placed within the Verdugos. Turner has been placing AFC’s remotely triggered cameras in locations she thinks a new mountain lion might appear.

Since the mountain lion known as P-41 passed last year, another mountain lion by the name of Nikita has been alone living in the Verdugos. It is hoped that the new lion might be suitor for her.

It is not known how Adonis – the nickname Turner gave the new mountain lion – found his way into the Verdugos. However, AFC claims that is its job: locating possible routes to secure and enhance for safe passage for all wildlife between areas of native habitat.

The public is reminded that, as Adonis gets to know his new territory, take normal precautions with household pets. Also, do not use any kind of rat poison because they wreak havoc on the entire wildlife chain. Multiple types were found in P-41’s carcass.
