The Good, the Bad and The Ugly

Let’s start with The Bad. A local resident started a Facebook site specifically for the La Crescenta area. It was started with the hopes that it would serve as a “friendly, community ‘virtual neighborhood watch.’ We hoped it would alert neighbors to any threats, provide information on upcoming community events, bring lost animals to their owners and, most importantly, bring people together in a friendly, small-town sort of way.” The site grew in popularity and today boasts over 4,000 followers. Unfortunately, due to the poor, rude and unfriendly behavior of some, the page will be shutting down in the next couple of days.

The Good. On the second Saturday of the month, local volunteer Steve Pierce heads up a group that cleans the La Crescenta Avenue off-ramp of the 210 Freeway. On Saturday I got to be a part of this merry little band of cleaners. Armed with pincers to grab any debris buried under the bushes lining the off-ramp, and wearing the oh-so-chic yellow reflective safety vest and hard hat, I spent about 30 minutes picking up trash. Make a note on your calendar to be part of the fun on the second Saturday of the month at 8:30 a.m. Steve would appreciate the help.

The Ugly. Look at the picture. That’s me in the glasses and orange hard hat. Need I say more?
