Zhaklin Shaumyan of Tujunga earned a Bachelor of Science degree in human services (UG) from Springfield College in Massachusetts for studies completed in 2017.
Springfield College recently held its commencement weekend. At the graduate commencement, 658 master’s degrees, six certificates of advanced graduate study, 15 Doctor of Philosophy degrees, 34 Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees, and five Doctor of Psychology degrees were awarded. At the undergraduate commencement, 873 bachelor’s degrees were awarded for a two-day total of 1591 degrees.
Founded in 1885, Springfield College is known worldwide for the guiding principles of its Humanics philosophy-educating students in spirit, mind and body for leadership in service to others.

Local residents were among the approximately 1,000 graduates who received their degrees at the University of Hartford’s Undergraduate Commencement on Sunday, May 21.
Rebecca Kahn of La Cañada, a cinema major in the University’s College of Arts and Sciences, received a Bachelor of Arts degree and Kaival Parekh of La Crescenta, a liberal studies student in the University’s Hillyer College, received an Associate in Arts.
The University of Hartford (UHart), centrally located in Connecticut, provides a distinctive educational experience across seven schools and colleges for one of the most diverse student bodies in New England.

Shaun Troy of Tujunga earned a BS in management from Quincy University. Quincy University, located in Quincy, Illinois, hosted its 154th commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 14 at 10:30 a.m. in Quincy University’s Pepsi Arena. The 2017 graduating class is comprised of 243 undergraduates with an additional 41 receiving graduate degrees.

The following local residents recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society.
Tae Hyup Ha of La Crescenta was initiated at University of Southern California abd Tanya Chaljian of Glendale was initiated at California State University, Los Angeles.
These residents are among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10% of seniors and 7.5% of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10% of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Lyla Iannaccone, an arts administration from Glendale, has been named to the dean’s list at Butler University in Indianapolis for the spring 2017 semester.
Any degree-seeking undergraduate student earning at least 12 academic hours of grade credit in a given semester may be placed on the dean’s list of the college of enrollment if the semester grade point average is in the top 20% of all eligible students in that college. Courses taken under the pass/fail option do not count toward 12 academic hours of grade credit.

Lehigh University congratulates Dana Budzyn and Caroline Raney of La Cañada and Sidney Ro of Tujunga for being named to the dean’s list in spring 2017. This status is granted to students who earned a scholastic average of 3.6 or better while carrying at least 12 hours of regularly graded courses.

Stephanie Beck from La Canada Flintridge, Class of 2018, was named to the dean’s list at Bucknell University during the spring semester of the 2016-17 academic year. A student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive dean’s list recognition.
    Brandon Newquist, also from La Cañada Flintridge, graduated from Bucknell University on May 21.
Located in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, Bucknell University is a highly selective private liberal arts university that offers majors in the arts, engineering, humanities, management, and social and natural sciences, along with broad opportunities outside of class, to its 3,600 undergraduates.

Baylor University conferred degrees on more than 2,500 graduates during spring commencement exercises May 12 and 13 in the Ferrell Center on the Baylor campus.
Among the recipients from Glendale were Rachel Conover Arnall who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, university scholar and Brett Vincent Feehan, who earned a Bachelor of Business Admin., management information systems; from La Crescenta, Elena Gabrielle León earned a Bachelor of Science in education, special education all level, magna cum laude.

Anne Hale of La Cañada Flintridge graduated from Colorado College with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Hale was one of 503 undergraduates receiving a BA at the May 22 ceremony, in which New York Times best-selling author Hampton Sides, Colorado College’s journalist-in-residence, delivered the commencement address.
Hale is a graduate of Mamaroneck High School.
Colorado College is a nationally prominent, four-year liberal arts college that was founded in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1874.

Sienna Hill of La Cañada Flintridge (earned a bachelor’s degree in international business.
Kathryn Moser of Glendale earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Moser graduated summa cum laude. Moser participated in the university’s honors program designed to provide smart, passionate and engaged students with challenges and opportunities to allow them to achieve their intellectual goals. The program emphasizes teaching excellence, small seminar-style classes, and a core curriculum of innovative courses.
Kasey Okazaki of La Cañada earned a bachelor’s degree in biology. Okazaki completed the requirements for graduation in January of this year.
Kaylan Rothrock of La Crescenta earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations. Rothrock graduated magna cum laude.

Michael Peters from La Cañada participated in Gonzaga University graduation exercises during the commencement ceremony held on Sunday, May 7 in Spokane’s Veterans’ Memorial Arena.
Peters either completed his undergraduate degree or are expected to complete his degree requirements this year.
 Liam Cascelli earned placement on the Gonzaga University Dean’s List for spring semester 2017. Students must earn a 3.5 to 3.84 grade-point average to be listed.

More than 3,700 Baylor University students were named to the dean’s academic honor roll for the 2017 spring semester including Gabriella S Lopez, Hankamer School of Business, and McKenna Rose Middleton, College of Arts and Sciences both from Glendale; Sophie Grace Schnee, School of Education, from La Cañada; Elena Gabrielle Leon, Louise Herrington School of Music, from La Crescenta.
To be named to the dean’s list, a student must be an undergraduate with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7, while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. Baylor University, located in Waco, Texas, is a private Christian University and a nationally ranked research institution.

Mackenzie Knight of La Crescenta, an art and design student studying for her Bachelor of Arts degree, was among the more than 8,700 Iowa State University students recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the spring semester 2017 dean’s list.
Students named to the dean’s list must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work.

Viviana Sandoval-Walsh of Montrose was named to the dean’s list at Quinnipiac University for the spring 2017 semester. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 with no grade lower than C. Full-time students must complete at least 14 credits in a semester, with at least 12 credits that have been graded on a letter grade basis to be eligible. Part-time students must complete at least six credits during a semester.
       Quinnipiac is a private, coeducational, nonsectarian institution located 90 minutes north of New York City and two hours from Boston.
