The Campbell Center Gearing Up for Derby Day Fundraiser

The Campbell Center will hold its annual signature fundraiser – Derby Day: Run for the Roses – on May 6 at Pickwick Gardens and Banquet Center in Burbank and plans are to make it the most successful to date.

On the menu are a variety of activities that guests have come to anticipate every year. Throughout its 26-year history, Derby Day has become the “talk of the town” and the fundraiser to attend, to see and be seen. Close to 300 guests from Glendale and surrounding communities will be in attendance to enjoy the day, bid on an array of fabulous silent and live auction items and help raise funds for the organization. Back by popular demand, Garth Kemp of KCBS will lead the the event live auction. Kemp was a huge hit at the 2016 event, charming guests to open their hearts and wallets to raise much-needed funds for the organization’s mission.

“This year we are truly excited about some outstanding items both for the live as well as silent auctions,” said Haig Youredjian, president of Western Drug, member of The Campbell Center Foundation board and co-chair of the 2017 Derby Day event. “We at Western Drug are honored to be one of the key sponsors of the fundraiser.”

Other sponsors currently include The Campbell Center founders Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Campbell, Kiwanis Glendale Foundation, Innovative Dimmers and LA Medical.

“We are deeply grateful to all our sponsors,” said Kim Guard, owner of Express Professional Employment in Glendale, member of the Foundation board of directors and co-chair of the 2017 Derby Day. “We couldn’t possibly achieve success without their help and we are honored to earn our sponsors’ continued support.”

Tickets and sponsorships are still available. Tickets are $100 per person; sponsorships are at various levels, starting with the champion sponsorship at $10,000. The Campbell Center was founded in 1954 by Phyllis, Jerry and Janice Campbell as a nonprofit organization. The impetus for launching the organization was Janice who was born with Down’s syndrome and whom no school within the Glendale school system would enroll because of her disability. While initially the organization was focused on serving children, over the ensuing 63 years it has evolved into an agency whose mission is to partner with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, empowering them to successfully gain independence and attain their desired outcomes through opportunity and choice.
