On Saturday, March 26 at 7:45 p.m., six units from the Glendale Fire Dept.  (one Battalion Chief, two engine companies, one truck company, one urban search and rescue company, and one basic life support ambulance), along with helicopters from the Glendale Police Dept. and Los Angeles County Fire Dept. under the command of Battalion Chief Brian Richey, responded to a report of three hikers stranded on the hillside above Brand Park located at 1601 W. Mountain Street in  Glendale.
Fire and police department resources initiated a ground and aerial search for the three hikers. After narrowing the search area, the Glendale police helicopter observed the three hikers stranded on a trail below Tongva Peak. The Los Angeles County Fire Dept. helicopter performed a hoist operation guided by Glendale Fire Dept. personnel to safely remove the hikers from the mountain. Once on the ground, Glendale Fire Dept. paramedics assessed the hikers who were found to be uninjured.
The Glendale Fire Dept. encourages residents to bring water, appropriate clothing, a flashlight or headlamp, a light snack, and a charged cell phone when hiking. Additionally, persons should always stay on the trails to avoid getting lost.
