Students throughout the nation, and specifically in the foothills, took to the streets on the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 7 to celebrate National Walk to School Day.
According to the internet, Walk to School Day was founded in the USA in 1997 by the Partnership for a Walkable America. It began as a one-day event to build awareness and advocate for the need for walkable communities. The event was inspired by the UK’s Walk to School campaign, which began in the mid-1990s, making it part of a larger international movement.

Outside Fremont Elementary School, members of the Crescenta Valley High School marching band were tuning up, ready to greet the walkers who had started their trek from nearby Montrose Park on Clifton Place. In addition to the marching band, members of the CV High School cheer squad were on hand to greet the walkers as they entered the school.

In addition, Glendale Police Dept. officers were on hand to oversee that everyone arrived at the school safely.
