Doubts Value of Investigation

Adam Schiff is going to investigate oil companies [“Schiff to Introduce Legislation to Investigate Oil Companies,” CV Weekly, July 9] – companies that help get about 31-plus million households to work, to school and to the market [but] need to be investigated. For what? Selling their products instead of donating to all who consume? They are a business, Adam, not a charity.

Schiff found a service station that lists fuel at $8 per gallon and believes that is a standard in California. I pay about $4 and change here in La Crescenta, so I think Schiff is cherry picking to make a point. The governor (also a Democrat) has declared oil companies to be the people’s enemy and now Schiff is going to support that belief to better his optics with California voters.

CVWD Upcoming Election

The Crescenta Valley Water District (CVWD) will have three openings for its board of directors on the Nov. 3, 2026 election ballot. Having served on the board since 2009, I have decided not to rerun for another term.

Being a director is an enjoyable and rewarding experience as you realize how important the District is in providing water and sewer services to La Crescenta and its neighboring communities. Everyday most of us take for granted there will always be water available for drinking, bathing, washing clothes, irrigating landscapes, swimming in pools, etc. and, of course, putting out fires when they occur. There are, however, many challenges in keeping the vast network of pipes, wells, pumps and reservoirs functioning to ensure water comes out of the faucet whenever you turn it on.

I encourage if you live within the District election boundary to apply for a position on the board to guide the District in the coming years.

The candidate filing period is from July 13 through Aug. 7. As an incumbent. I am not rerunning and therefore the filing date is extended to Aug. 12.
