Supporting Altadena’s Rebuilding Efforts
On Saturday evening, Steve and I headed to Altadena. Much of the landscape is still “moon-like” – the remnants evident of the Eaton Fire in January 2025.
We were on our way to a fundraiser for the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team. “Murder at the Mausoleum” was held at the Pasadena Mausoleum in Altadena and organized by the Altadena Sheriff Support Group (SSGA). Before heading into the mausoleum, participants heard from Captain Ethan Marquez. He praised SSGA for its ongoing efforts to help fire victims, including hosting the Altadena Forever Run, which raised over $140,000 for the Altadena community. Captain Marquez noted the money went straight into the hands of fire victims. He also noted that in October there will be a haunted jail event at the sheriff’s station and invited folks to take part in that as well.

The event featured delicious food and wine as well as opportunity drawing prizes. Of course, we were tasked with finding the perpetrators of several crimes that happened inside and outside the mausoleum. (We failed – miserably.)
Steve and I were fortunate in that our table mates were interesting people who had some great stories to share.
At the end of the evening we left with full stomachs.
Craig, the head of the murder mystery, then gave us some general information and introduced the “detective” of the evening: Lt. Detective Scam Likely.
And that’s how the evening went. Scam had several people share “clues” that were attained in a variety of ways – all to lead us toward the discovery of the murderer/s. It was a fun night and I’m glad that we were part of it – and helped Altadena.
