INVENTING PARADISE – TOPIC OF PRESENTATION

In 1895 Los Angeles was a 29-square-mile pueblo with a few thousand residents. Thirty seven years later, in 1932, Los Angeles had grown by 450 miles and 1.2 million people and became the largest city by area in the United States. During that time six visionaries – Phineas Banning, Harrison Gray Otis, Henry Huntington, Harry Chandler, William Mulholland and Moses Sherman – willed LA into being.

The speaker for the 2nd Saturday program is Paul Haddad who will share fascinating and entertaining stories about the creation of Los Angeles  including how and why some cities (Hollywood, Venice and San Pedro) joined Los Angeles while others (Beverly Hills, Culver City, Pasadena) avoided annexation.

This presentation is free and open to the public and everyone is welcome. It will be held on April 11 at 1 p.m. at the Bolton Hall Museum, home of Little Landers Historical Society, at 10110 Commerce Ave. in Tujunga.
