LCPC Christmas Concert: ‘Here We Come A-Caroling’

Christmas is a joyous time for music and singing carols. La Cañada Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir and LCPC Orchestra have assembled a concert of joyous music, videos and stories for everyone, performed by a cast of over 120 musicians.  “Here We Come A-Caroling” will be presented on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. There is no cost for admission (freewill offering accepted).

This concert has it all: excerpts from Handel’s oratorio Messiah and Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet The Nutcracker to Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol plus familiar carols from across the ages and three brand new carols written in the 21st century. The concert is a multimedia event featuring movie excerpts, video clips and pictures of favorite Christmas images.

Among the familiar favorites are “Away in a Manger,” “O Come, O Come Emmanuel,” “Here We Come A-Caroling,” “Angels We Have Heard on High,”  “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “The Huron Carol,” “Rise Up Shepherd and Follow” and over a dozen others. LCPC’s Exultate Ringers handbell choir will be featured on “Ring Those Christmas Bells.” The concert will close with Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” from Messiah.

Prior to the concert at 1:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary, LCPC’s director of Music & Worship Arts Jack Lantz will present a talk on how four famous works written for other seasons have become subsumed into Christmas.

The concert will be held in the LCPC sanctuary at 626 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada with ample parking. The adjacent Worship Arts Center will be set up for children with a live broadcast of the concert plus activities and food, including hot chocolate and cookies.

For those who cannot attend in-person, the concert and pre-concert lecture will be live-streamed via LCPC’s website, YouTube and Facebook.
