Feliz Navidad Celebration

The Don Jose Verdugo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution welcomed the community with open arms to a heartwarming Feliz Navidad Celebration: Discover What’s New at the Adobe on Sunday, Dec. 7. From 1 to 3 p.m., the historic Catalina Verdugo Adobe came alive with joy, tradition and the spirit of togetherness.

Under the leadership of Amy Tocek, the DJV/DAR Historic Preservation chair and event coordinator, the celebration was filled with moments that honored the legacy of Don Jose Verdugo, a proud Spanish-American patriot.

As the gates opened, guests were greeted by the Crescenta Valley High School Charismatics, whose voices filled the air with holiday melodies. The lively and colorful performances by the Ballet Folklorico Mexico Azteca delighted all, capturing the vibrant spirit of Mexican culture through dance and music.

A heartfelt tribute to Don Jose Verdugo brought everyone together in reflection as 21 of his descendants were present and honored during the program – a living link to the area’s rich past.

Adding to the day’s excitement, Boy Scout Troop 319 – Jeremiah Youn, Ezekiel Youn, Grant Tuggle and Jake George – led children on a scavenger hunt through the Adobe’s historic grounds, encouraging them to explore and connect with local history.

Troop 319 Scouts welcomed guests to the celebration.

Guests enjoyed food from Sandoval Tacos & Tamales and sweet Christmas treats, savoring every bite as part of this festive community gathering.

Throughout the afternoon, visitors toured the Catalina Verdugo Adobe, the oldest building in Glendale, experiencing the stories and legacy preserved within it walls. It was shared that the Adobe will now be open to the public on the first Sunday of every month, inviting even more people to discover its beauty and history.
