Music met mayhem when hundreds showed their Halloween spirit at the trunk-or-treat event on Friday night, Oct. 24 at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station (CVSS). The station was just one of several local locations where trunk-or-treat events were held and local families (kids and adults) were eager to show off their Halloween costumes.

The CVSS parking lot was transformed with ghosties and ghoulies dressed for the spooky season visiting each of the dozen or so trunks that offered Halloween goodies. Recorded music could be heard that embraced Halloween. Entering the parking lot, guests were first greeted by a decorated stretch of grass that boasted a cemetery, set up by the sheriff’s station. Immediately across from that was a table where trunk-or-treaters could pick up a pail to collect candy, courtesy of the Crescenta Valley Water District.

Creativity ruled the day with trunks reflecting all things spooky. These included a Toyota Land Cruiser owned by Robert Manciero. Donna Libra of the CV Town Council and CV Chamber of Commerce helped dish out sweets.

Singing pumpkins amid tombstones and skeletons were found in the rear of Robert Manciero’s Land Cruiser.

“This is the first time we participated in trunk-or-treat,” she said. “We’re having a good time!”

The rear compartment of Manciero’s Cruiser was outfitted not only with tombstones and skeletons, but also with pumpkins that “sang” seasonal songs. The singing pumpkins were a popular draw, especially for little ones who danced to the music.

Manciero commented that he had fun and the event “brings the community together.”

“I’m happy to see so many kids and grownups participating,” he said. (Manciero is also a member of the board of directors for the CV Chamber of Commerce.)

Another of the trunks belonged to Steve Purcell, a member of the Road Kings of Burbank, has participated in the sheriff’s trunk-or-treat event for the past three or so years. His skeletal dog Bones was also a popular draw for the kids.

In addition to the Grim Reaper who made an appearance Smokey Bear was also on site.

The combination of candy, songs and free hot dogs kept everyone happy and tummies full.
