LCIF Celebrates All Saints Day
A week after celebrating Reformation Sunday, Lutheran Church in the Foothills (LCIF) will celebrate another important date on the church calendar: All Saints Day. On this day, congregants remember and honor their own lost loved ones as well the saints celebrated throughout history. According to the church’s governing body, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, “All Saints brings into focus our own beloved dead while also stretching our imagination toward the whole company of saints, more diverse and populous than we can fully comprehend.” The festival originally honored those who were considered especially holy: heroic figures from the Scriptures and martyrs who had given their lives nonviolently in witness to the faith. However, according to the ELCA, it is an especially Lutheran accent for the feast to honor not only those who lived exemplary lives but all who have been baptized into Christ’s death.
All Saints Day worship will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2 with Pastor Viv Vega, music and choir led by music director Mark Anzelon and pianist Sun Coe. All are welcome. A livestream is offered on the church’s YouTube channel.
LCIF also thanks its many volunteers for helping with its recent “trunk or treat” carnival on Oct. 19. Dozens of families enjoyed the free community event which included games, trunk-or-treating amidst the many decorated car trunks in the church’s parking lot, a bounce house and plenty of food and treats. The church also thanks LA County Fire Station 19 for paying a visit, meeting with the families and showing kids how a fire engine works.
Visit lcifoothills.org for event details, including small group gatherings and opportunities to serve. Participants will walk for the first hour and then gather to read a selection of Scripture.
