Members and guests of Scouting’s Verdugo Hills Council gathered at the Urban Press Winery & Restaurant in Burbank on Aug. 22 to honor Nancy Guillen, the Council’s Good Turn Award recipient. A friend of Scouting for many years, Guillen is the owner and CEO of True Integrity Insurance & Payroll Services. Prior to establishing True Integrity, Guillen spent 22 years in the medical industry.

The afternoon’s program opened with a welcome by master of ceremonies Albert Hernandez, CEO of Home Again Los Angeles, a non-profit homeless services agency. He then introduced honoree Guillen who was given a crystal plaque commemorating her service to the Verdugo Hills Council. The program was briefly paused as she, Council President Hovik Shahinian and Council Scout Executive Amy Taylor posed for photographs.

“I was a Girl Scout once upon a time,” said Guillen. “Scouting taught me to serve others. The good we do today is the happiness of tomorrow.”

In honor of Guillen, a Scout will be given a week of day camp and $50 for snacks.

The program ended with remarks by Taylor acknowledging Council highlights.

“Although we’re a small council, we have 25 troops and 64 Eagle Scouts who have given more than 8,000 hours in service projects,” she reported.

Luncheon donors Bruce and Debbie Hinkley are Scouting supporters.

In answer to a call for donations, Guillen responded, “Give from your heart.”
