Woodbury University hosted its 60th annual fashion runway benefit, La Rêverie (French for “a state of pleasant dreams”), in May at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale.
Inspired by nostalgia, escapism and otherworldly aesthetics, the collections featured delicate fabrics, soft silhouettes and imaginative designs that blur the line between reality and dream. That evening, Woodbury featured students across class years, highlighting its four senior students in particular: the collection of Alexandra Garcia, “Porcelain Maison,” which won the Fashion Innovator Award for exceptional innovation, a cohesive presentation of concept and the potential to shape the future of design, as reflected in high judges’ scores; the collection of Grecia Salinas/Grace Bonds, “Torito,” which won the Rising Star Award, representing the highest overall score from the judges across all categories to recognize exceptional talent through a well-developed concept, craftsmanship and a clear creative vision; the collection Alexa Lopez, “Laced Love;” the collection of Siara Perez “Rainbowtopia.”
Further, Woodbury honored two alumni with the Alumni Inspiration Awards:

Mariam Mujahidah, a denim reimaginer who transforms old denim into unique, custom pieces through upcycling and sustainable design through her own brand Mujahidah Denim, and Esther Chandra Wang, founder and designer of Chandra, a Los Angeles-based bridal label known for its chic yet classic gowns. Upon graduating from Woodbury, she earned the Most Creative Senior Design Award. Woodbury also honored Adolfo Sanchez, a renowned LA-based designer known for his custom evening wear, bridal couture and menswear, with the Creative Inspiration Award. Sanchez has earned recognition in top-tier magazines such as Vogue and Elle and has collaborated with some of the most iconic celebrities and artists, such as Ariana Grande, Kylie Jenner and Justin Bieber.

“This year’s milestone event is a testament to the passion and dedication of our students, who have poured their hearts into their collections,” said Anna Leiker, program director of the Fashion Design Dept. in the School of Media: Culture: Design at Woodbury University. “Through La Rêverie, they invite us into their dreamscapes, showcasing innovative designs that push the boundaries of fashion and storytelling.”
