On Tuesday, May 27 at about 9 a.m., Glendale police officers responded to a reported commercial burglary at Bidrussian Jewelry at 1102½ S. Glendale Ave. Officers met with the business owner who reported discovering the interior lights on after having secured the store the previous evening.
Upon entering the business, officers found the store severely damaged and the store ransacked. They immediately detected inside the business a strong odor of gunpowder and burnt material. Investigators also observed a large hole in the ceiling of a back room, believed to be the point of entry.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Glendale Fire Dept. and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. Bomb Squad were requested to ensure there was no active threat of explosives or fire. Glendale Fire and the LASD Bomb technicians deemed the scene safe and ultimately determined that one or more safes inside the business had been breached using a torch device, which likely ignited a small fire within the business.
The incident is being investigated as an isolated burglary. The total loss of jewelry is currently unknown. No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the Glendale Police Dept. at (818) 548-3127.
